Frequently asked questions
- Are the PDFs uploaded to a server?
- No. Rendering and text extraction both happen in your browser — the files never leave your computer.
- Can it compare scanned documents?
- No. This tool compares the PDF text layer only. For scans, run them through Extract PDF text (OCR) first to get a text layer or a TXT file, then compare.
- Where are the highlights shown?
- The differences are highlighted in the text diff panel below (green = added, red = removed, yellow = changed). The page canvas is only used for the side-by-side preview.
- What if the page counts differ?
- You are told which side has more pages; the extra pages show as "no such page" on the other side and are treated as removed or added in the text panel.
- Is it good for comparing contract revisions?
- It works well for Word-exported PDFs that have a text layer. Complex layouts can shift line breaks and reading order slightly, so double-check the key clauses.
