Frequently asked questions
- Is the PDF uploaded?
- No. Reading and writing the bookmarks happen entirely locally in your browser — the file never leaves your computer.
- Will bookmark titles come out garbled?
- No. Titles are written with the standard PDF UTF-16BE encoding, so mainstream readers display them correctly in any language.
- What does "batch by filename" mean?
- Select several PDFs at once and each file gets one top-level bookmark: the title is the file name without the .pdf extension, and it jumps to page 1. The results can be downloaded as a ZIP.
- Can I edit bookmarks in an encrypted PDF?
- No. Use the Unlock PDF tool on this site to remove the password first, then edit the bookmarks.
- Do the exported bookmarks work in Adobe or the browser?
- Yes. Each bookmark points at a page inside the PDF (physical page number) and jumps to the top of that page when clicked.
